Session Summary:

This interactive workshop explores how Arabic language teaching can move beyond rote learning and memorisation towards conceptual, inquiry-based learning, in line with the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate (IB). Participants will engage with practical strategies that help students connect language learning to culture and real-life contexts, while strengthening critical and creative thinking skills.

Through examples of classroom activities from the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Arabic Language and Literature, attendees will learn how to design lessons that focus on big ideas, deep understanding, and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills. The workshop also highlights how assessment can be used purposefully to support deeper understanding and promote learner independence in Arabic language learning.

Emad Ahmed is the Arabic Language and Literature Subject Leader at Dar Al-Marefa Private School in Dubai and a certified International Baccalaureate (IB) Workshop Leader. With over twenty years of experience in teaching Arabic and Islamic Education in Egypt, Oman, and the UAE, Emad is passionate about developing innovative approaches to Arabic language teaching that align with IB philosophy. He trains and mentors teachers in implementing conceptual learning, inquiry-based instruction, and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills. Emad strives to make Arabic learning meaningful and engaging for both native and non-native speakers, fostering students’ appreciation of culture, identity, and global citizenship.
