In this session, we will explore the concept of student voice from both micro and macro perspectives, examining how each level influences educational practices and outcomes. On the micro level – student voice refers to the individual contributions of students within the classroom. This includes their active participation in discussions, feedback on lessons, and input into their learning experiences. We will discuss practical strategies for teachers to create environments where every student feels heard and valued, fostering a culture of personal agency and engagement.
On the macro level – student voice extends beyond the classroom to influence broader school policies, curriculum development, and even community involvement. Here, students may have opportunities to participate in school governance, contribute to decision-making processes, or engage in advocacy for systemic change. This level emphasises the importance of empowering students to influence their educational environment on a larger scale, ensuring that their perspectives help shape the direction of the school or educational system as a whole. Participants will gain insight into the practical implementation of both micro and macro student voice approaches. By the end of the session, educators will have a deeper understanding of how to effectively integrate student input at all levels, ultimately enhancing educational experiences and promoting student agency.
