This workshop explores how science education is strengthened when learning is intentionally extended beyond the classroom. With experience in leading curriculum design and secondary science initiatives, Dr Semhar will examine how well-planned experiential learning can deepen scientific understanding and increase student engagement, while contributing to a vibrant culture of inquiry.
Participants will explore how curriculum-linked events can be designed to reinforce core scientific thinking. Examples will include ecological field studies, student-led investigations, science expositions, and global awareness initiatives such as World Science Day and International Week of Science and Peace. The workshop will explore the variety of platforms given to students to apply scientific knowledge while working with evidence, and communicate their thinking to an authentic audience.
‘Strengthening Science Learning with Purposeful Curriculum Design’ is designed for science teachers, curriculum leaders, and school leaders who are seeking to strengthen science learning through intentional design. Participants will leave with practical ideas and planning considerations that can be adapted within their own school contexts.

Dr Semhar Geberemariam
Dr Semhar Geberemariam is an international educator and sustainability leader with a passion for systems thinking and regenerative learning. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology, a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Cleveland University-Kansas City (CCCLA), and is a certified teacher through the Arizona Department of Education. Her career spans roles as Science Subject Lead, Head of Science, and Director of Education across diverse learning environments. She currently serves as Head of Sustainability at Fairgreen International School in Dubai. As lead coordinator for the UAE Esol Education Sustainability Summit and an Emirates Nature-WWF Leader of Change, Dr Semhar works at the intersection of science and leadership, dedicated to growing a culture where care for people and planet is woven into everyday thinking and action.
